Fashion Model

Fashion model is a human mannequin who works in the fashion world. The word model derives from the french word modèle representing a person that wears fashion clothing as a way of marketing it to the public. The fashion industry deals largely with clothing and are pioneers of upcoming trends. The service a model provides is to display and wear clothing in a manner that shows the entirety of a garment and how well it looks to the customer when worn. These models therefore, have to have an element of beauty, physique and height to pass as a the right candidate to market an item.
There has been in the past, a lot of pressure and still is an underlying problem for models having to conform to being very thin and, a lot are known to be a size zero showing a very frail image which the fashion industry accepted as being the right look for its models. This is changing for the skinnier a model is the more attention is being focused on her lifestyle and diet and to help battle anorexia and bulimia. Modeling school are encouraging students to maintain a healthy image as this is becoming a serious issue for the younger generation of girls who have resorted to eating disorders in order to conform to the unrealistic look portrayed in fashion magazines.
A fashion model would be seen on a catwalk or runway in a fashion show, be in magazines or advertising campaigns. They parade clothing, make-up, hair and accessories. When a photographer takes pictures, he is concentrating on how to show the product that needs to be marketed in a good light and not on how to emphasis the model’s looks or sexuality. That type of modeling is called glamour modeling where the model is the centre of attraction and she is therefore, selling herself for pin-ups and men’s magazines. There are many other types of modeling areas that display different products such as fitness models who show their muscles together with sports clothing and equipment.
You can find mainstream models to supermodels, men and children and also the plus-size models who cater for the larger woman in clothing. However, models still have to maintain a certain requirement to be passed as a fashion model by the association they work for.
