Hair and Make-Up Artists

Hair and make-up artists show their creativity by using cosmetics and/or hair styling products on performers to models and brides. Hair stylists and make-up artists either work on their own as freelancers or through major corporations such as Rimmell or L’Oreal. There are many cosmetic products that are specifically used by these artists such a MAC products which is abbreviated for Make-up Artists Cosmetics.

This is a very specialised field and when actors spend hours in their dressing rooms it is because a make-up artist is trying to achieve the image required for a movie scene and some may need to completely transform the look of an actor altogether. These artists create a look required for special effects on film sets and there are awards attained for their creativity. Make-up is not applied on a person purely to enhance their features but also to make a person appear scary, have bloody scars, stab wounds, bullet holes on their bodies, appear old or young according to the requirement for that scene. Any look that a director requires the model or performer to have will ultimately require the skill of hair and make-up artists.

Some of these talents may be found working for the bridal industry, fashion modeling, dance, ballet, musicals or offering a makeover in shopping malls to market a cosmetic range or hair product. The fashion industry is one place you will find many of these talents as models have to have flawless appearance to be able to show trends in fashion, clothes, jewellery, cosmetics, hair to a variety of other products. Therefore, these artists play a major role and can work long and unpredictable hours to achieve perfection.

Some well known artists have travelled the world to fashion shows and award ceremonies to weddings and events that require their service. Therefore, like any other artist, experienced hair and make-up artists will have a vast portfolio of work showing their creative vision.
