Sound Engineers

Sound engineers is a term sometimes confused with audio engineers. Not quite sure what the difference is, but it is said that an audio engineer would have more of a creative input in designing, fixing and building a sound and that a sound engineer would concentrate on producing the entire canvas for an audio engineer to work on. Whichever way you see it, both people require an immense understanding of the science of documenting and producing sounds through electronic machinery. With the dawn of the digital age, they would be the first to master the transition from analog to high tech concepts of capturing and broadcasting sound.
These professionals lean more on the creative side then the engineering however, qualifications can be obtained through both creative or technical colleges. Within the field of sound engineering, there are many other specialised pathways a student can find training in such as radio broadcast or television operating.
Sound engineers are found in any creative industry that require sound from music, television and film productions to advertising, multimedia and broadcasting. In larger productions such as orchestras and music concerts they play a major role in making sure that there is no distortion in the sound output for its audience, especially in an open space location where external noise can interfere with the music being created. Therefore, their expertise is shown through the speakers and the use of machinery. In other smaller projects, these engineers can also play the part of a producer, being the sole person to complete a sound project.
Sound engineering is a highly specialised talent and their contribution in productions are of just as much importance as that of a director or editor of visuals. Just as the pictures stir emotion within us, sound can play a bigger role in say, horror movies or theatre as they deal with a completely different sense for our entertainment pleasure. The sound and music presented on screen or the radio would not be of high quality if it were not for the expertise of the sound engineers in those productions.
