Bollywood actors and actresses perform in mainstream popular cinema in the Indian Film Industry based in Mumbai. Better known as Bollywood, the industry churns out around 1,000 films a year, far more than that made in Hollywood. Bollywood has a long history with many actors coming from families who have previously been in film or contributed in some way to the industry. Many actors and actresses conform to those talents found in Hollywood mainstream cinema and both sides of the industries are merging and influencing each other in different ways.

Lower costs of manpower in Indian cinema together with western production sets have generated hits such as Slumdog Millionaire and Bride and Prejudice, being English productions. There is now a treaty in place allowing Indian filmmakers to have easier access to English film producers giving rise to further collaborations between the two cultures.

Outward appearance and having a well toned physique is of a high priority for bollywood actors and actresses and here you will see more muscular men than any other film industry in the world. They aspire to obtain that ‘hero’ or ‘heroine’ status throughout, which in turn will attract the role of the protagonist in a popular film. There are also a handful of villains and comedians who have their part too. In the past, Bollywood films had a limited variety of roles available but now with better productions and scripts there are larger casts on film shoots.

Each talent is so well known to the public that the fans will be loyal in going to the cinemas to see their favourites on screen. Music and fashion are integrated into these films so that the latest trends are on show and along with acting, these renowned performers are constantly working on improving their screen appeal and dance skills due to the heavy competition amongst Bollywood actors and actresses.
