Art and Design Colleges

Art and design colleges are educational institutions that provide courses in the creative field. As everything around us is regarded as being works of art, from the furniture to the television in our homes to every visual communication in the world, it is of no surprise that there are so many of these institutions in the world catering for the creative talents of the future generation.
These types of colleges or schools specialise entirely on the talents within our creative world from sculpture, fine art, photography, graphic or jewellery designing to web development and other paths.
Unlike a general university that offers a wide range of courses along with one or two art and design programs, the art colleges are more beneficial to students as they study alongside other artists and have a creative environment in which to learn in. Also, art and design colleges give a good foundation and standing for a student to further their talent and career within the outside world because these specialist colleges focus on their reputation in offering a high standard of education along with the latest art and design equipment, materials and services. Some colleges also offer their students discounts on purchasing art products and materials for their course.
The student would have an opportunity to experiment with different projects and by the end of their education will have a better understanding of the other fields that they would not necessarily have been able to experience elsewhere.
Famous artists such as Tracy Emin, enrolled at the Maidstone College of Art which then merged with two other art colleges nearby in Canterbury and Rochester to form the Kent Institute of Art and Design. The same institution now goes by the more recent title of University for the Creative Arts after further merging with the Surrey Institute of Art and Design and obtaining university status.
This just shows how colleges that start small can end up as larger universities due to the increasing amount of students enrolling in their creative courses each year. Also a larger establishment will have more services and funding to be able to offer artists who graduate from their art and design colleges a good quality of education, guidance and foundation before engaging in their creative career paths.
