Corporate entertainment is in relation to events that are privately hosted by businesses or organisations on behalf of their clients, shareholders and staff. Another term sometimes used is corporate hospitality which is the affair of entertaining an audience or guests at a corporate event. These events are normally presented in two categories; a business event such as a seminar, conference or convention and a hospitality or leisure event such as a party, private viewing, private concert or sporting event.

Entertainment of this sort is a very effective source of communication and the development of network opportunities. Not only does hospitality play a major role in establishing and maintaining client relationships but also further strengthens the organisation’s bond with its own personnel. It is also a significant way to reinforce a business/client relationship whereby key people from one company are able to meet and greet the key people from their client’s company.

There are many types of experiences or events that a business can take into account when arranging an event for their corporate entertainment. Corporate weekends; this is when an entire weekend is planned for an activity such as boat sailing, yacht chartering or playing golf. Team building events; normally includes the staff of a company being entertained through tailored communication and team development such as dragon boat racing through to the making of a group pop video. Corporate dinner and dance; this can encompass charity fundraisers, black-tie galas, award ceremonies and Christmas parties. The activities and entertainment for an event of this type can be endless and to name a few; casino gambling, comedians, magicians, chocolate fountains, on-site photography and printing, film coverage, fireworks, fire eaters, dancers, DJs and musicians are just some of the enjoyments.

Under most circumstances, the organising of an event is usually assigned to a corporate event organiser or a party planner. The role of an event organiser is hands-on and often involves working as part of a team. They must be able to deal with a wide range of activities requiring clear communication, exceptional management skills and great attention to detail. They must also be capable of delivering the corporate entertainment on budget and exactly to the client’s specification.
