Dancers and choreographers work together to perform dance routines for entertainment. There are many areas in which a dancer can perform in such as ballet, musical plays, evening entertainment events, classical, modern, tap, jazz, rain dance and street dance. A dancer will tell a story through the way they move their body in accordance to the rhythm of the music.

A choreographer is a person who directs the routine and comes up with new ways or existing ones of performing for a group of dancers. Very rarely is there a solo dancer but singers within a music video will be seen to dance and usually their movements will be taught by a choreographer. The Indian Film Industry, Bollywood for example, whose films have a lot of song and dance routines, will never be short of a choreographer during their shooting process.

There are many talented people who can dance and together with other dancers have formed groups or crews in order to perform and show their talent as a form of self expression. Dancers and choreographers put in long hours from training in the day to performing in front of an audience at night. Their constant hard work can take its toll on their bodies and therefore, many dancers soon move towards choreography or management when they reach their early 40s.

An educational qualification within this field is not as necessary as being able to dance and be in good health and fitness. There are a few television series that present competitions like “So you think you can dance?’ and ‘Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew’ among others that show dancers’ skills.

A prime example is when two British dance troupes ‘Diversity’ and ‘Flawless’ showed their talent to the world in the live television program ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. Ashley Banjo, one of the members of ‘Diversity’ is also the choreographer and through his creativity, the group were voted number one in the competition. Not only will they perform in the Royal Variety Show in December but also have a part in a 3D film released next year and therefore, such talented dancers and choreographers can find global recognition through their creativity, style and skill.
