Event Organisers

Event organisers do a similar job to party planners however, on a much larger scale. To hold an event whether corporate or social can be a grand task, almost requiring the skills of a film producer. Along with having a good eye for detail and being extremely organised, an event organiser should also have a network of clients, friends and acquaintances that they can contact in helping them bring together a social or business event.
An event will need the services of a venue, caterer, florist, musician, live band or DJ and other professions, depending on the type of gathering, to make an event memorable. Some of the events that an organiser will undertake are corporate dinner dances, gala events, fundraising and charity events, business networking parties, business conferences, product launches, festivals, exhibitions and the more challenging fairs, concerts and fetes, which would usually have more than one event organiser for the different areas.
Event organisers work in all types of business and social sectors and can work in-house for a company or as freelancers. They tackle the overall management of an event from concept to the clearing up after the last guests have left. They have to be good team players as they liaise with both the service providers and the hosts. They should be able to work under pressure and make sure that everything runs smoothly and on schedule during the duration of the event, and like party planners, have the responsibility to trouble shoot when things are not working according to plan.
An event organiser has to arrange for car parking facilities, first aid, hospitality, security, a clear path for guests when arriving and leaving, identifying and giving priority to VIP guests and so on. They also have to deal with the budgeting and marketing of the event and should be able to “milk” the event as much as possible in order to generate income. Each event has an objective and goal, whether it brings business personnel together or in helping generate awareness for a product or service and therefore, very rarely are these event organisers just doing an event for fun.
