Fashion and Costume Designers

Fashion and costume designers deal with textiles and clothing. Fashion designers create forward trends in the way we dress. The high-end designers create in a fine art manner of manufacturing a one-off garment displaying their talents through their own fashion label. These clothes are then worn by mostly the rich and famous who are able to pay for the high price.

The clothes that are found in high street shops are created by those also known as clothing designers, and the shoes we buy are made by shoe designers and accessories by accessory designers and so forth. These types of designers either work on a freelance basis or are fully employed by a label manufacturer and are called in-house designers.

When we think of fashion designing, we immediately think of the more high-end designers like Donna Karan or Valentino who create exclusive haute couture garments for a specific consumer. Many designers aspire in inventing upcoming trends and having their name on a label in the fashion world. Many other artists like actors and musicians are also trying their hand in producing their own clothing line for both the exquisite and mass public. Along with creating sketches, fashion and costume designers work with a team of seamstresses, models, textile designers, buyers and sellers to create a finished product available for the consumer.

Costume designers recreate trends spanning from any era. Many are known to design clothing from the past or imagining future fashion for the use in film productions, photographic shoots, theatres and other areas of entertainment. They combine materials, props and textiles used for that period and re-produce them accordingly to fit the wearer.

There are also collaborations with jewellery designers, hair and make-up artists and others in the field that are involved with the team of fashion and costume designers to help put together a final image.
