Film School

Film school is an educational establishment that specialise specifically in all the aspects of film production, unlike Art and Design colleges that offer a variety of courses. Making a film and being involved in the process requires individuals who have had some experience and/or education in this field. However, not all filmmakers have gone through a particular film education in order to have got where they are now, such as Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg.
Experience is a vital key in any given field but more importantly, the talent that one possesses will make all the difference. However, film schools would not be around if they were of no importance. There is nothing wrong with getting a qualification and learning first hand from experienced tutors of what is required in the film industry. You get to learn the ins and outs of the whole process every step of the way and in which order. Having that foundation under your belt gives you a flying start. There are a lot of creative people competing for the same position. Whether they are exceptionally talented naturally or have taken three years to cultivate their talent is equally important.
In every field, there is a vicious cycle of qualification and experience. A film school enrollment may be the only answer for a young person to experience in which field of the filmmaking process they would like to specialise in when they graduate and gives them that time to try their hand at everything before they themselves search for where their talent lies. Some may think they want to be directors but find that they enjoy editing once they have experienced it.
The film industry altogether is a very difficult industry to penetrate. As there are factors such as investors who are skeptical of allowing a newcomer to take the reins even though they may be capable of the task at hand. However, the best advise possible is to get stuck into practical experience no matter how mundane or small the task. Many start off as tea makers and runners, and then, through experience and progress move up the ladder to where they want to be.
A film school certificate may give you a foundation and the know-how but to find a job in the industry, you will need to be focused and quite aggressive.
